We’ve all been there.
That moment when you plug in, ready to play, with a sound in your head — your sound. Maybe it’s the smooth, expressive blues of John Mayer, the iconic, explosive crunch of Van Halen, or the lush, melodic layers of Andy Timmons. Sometimes it’s just a feeling, a mood you want to capture. Other times, it’s the perfect tone for a specific track.
So, you start tweaking. Pedals come out, cables switch places, knobs turn, and for a second, you feel like you're getting close… but something’s still off. You swap one pedal. Then another. Change the order. Turn every dial just a little more. Before long, the sound is gone, replaced by a wall of buzz and confusion. The vibe is lost.
This is the cycle so many of us fall into — searching for that perfect tone but getting lost along the way. Some lucky players might have a tech nearby who can mod their gear on the fly. But for most of us, the live setting or even just a creative flow doesn’t leave room for that kind of deep dive.
That’s exactly why we built the MOOD knob.
Instead of fighting with endless settings, the MOOD knob gives you a continuous, expressive way to shape your tone within a specific type of effect — all in one simple movement. No clicks, no volume spikes, no signal dropouts. Just smooth tonal control, perfectly in tune with how you play and feel in the moment.
Because at the end of the day, tone isn’t just about gear — it’s about emotion, instinct, and inspiration.
Let your MOOD decide the tone of the moment. And above all — never stop playing.
This article is the first part of our MOOD Series, where we’ll explore how each Kernom pedal unlocks legendary tones and hidden textures with just one control.
Why the MOOD Knob Exists
Traditional pedals often lock you into a single sound — or, at best, a few preset modes. That’s why pedalboards tend to grow quickly, with 5 to 8 pedals just for one type of effect. Want a transparent boost, a mid-gain crunch, and high-gain saturation? That’s three overdrives. Need tremolo, chorus, and flanger? That’s three more.
The MOOD knob solves that.
Instead of switching between fixed voices, MOOD lets you seamlessly glide across an entire family of tones. Dial in a classic sound, then explore the spaces in between to craft hybrid textures that are uniquely yours — the kind of tones that define your signature.
All in one pedal.
How It Works: The Analog Morphing Core®
All Kernom pedals are based on the Analog Morphing Core® — our proprietary and patented technology that redefines how a single knob can shape sound.
At the heart of this technology is an analog circuit that generates the core sound of each effect, with digital control over key physical parameters — such as transistor bias, diode threshold voltage, or filter frequency response. It’s like unsoldering and resoldering different components in real time, with infinitely variable values.
This allows the single MOOD knob to control multiple internal parameters simultaneously, giving you a simple, intuitive way to explore a wide range of tonal possibilities — seamlessly and continuously.
-
It’s continuous: No jumps, no harsh switches. Just smooth tonal evolution.
-
It’s expressive: Reacts to your touch, playing style, and dynamics.
-
It’s flexible: Works with MIDI and expression control for hands-free morphing.
While we use digital technologies to control the analog circuit and inside the signal path, our pedals are not simulation or modelling of an analog circuit — it is a real analog circuit, whose physical behavior is modified in real time.
The MOOD Knob Across Kernom Pedals
The MOOD knob isn’t a switch—it’s a continuous blend across iconic tones within each effect family. The MOOD knob not only gives you access to legendary pedal voices, but also everything in between—and even beyond their original limitations. You’re not bound by historical constraints; you're free to sculpt new, personal sonic identities.
That means you can:
-
Dial in legendary sounds guitarists already love.
-
Explore hybrid textures that no vintage pedal ever offered.
-
Shape your own signature voice by finding the sweet spots only you would stop on.
Here’s how it comes alive in each pedal:
🎛️ RIDGE (Multi-Overdrive)
Instead of stacking a Klon Centaur, a King of Tone, and a Tube Screamer, RIDGE gives you all those flavors—and the spaces between—in one pedal.
Morph seamlessly from transparent clean boost → mid-pushed drive → saturated high gain.
🎛️ MOHO (Multi-Fuzz)
Why juggle a Fuzz Face, a Big Muff, and a ZVEX Fuzz Factory?
MOHO morphs from broken amp Velcro fuzz → ’60s classic fuzz → grunge-style Muff walls → synth fuzz chaos → alien ring mod textures.
🎛️ ELIPSE (Multi-Modulation)
Instead of switching between a Fender tremolo, a Uni-Vibe, and an Electric Mistress flanger, ELIPSE puts them all (and everything in between) under one MOOD knob.
Sweep through tremolo, rotary, chorus, vibrato, flanger, phaser, and vibe—with countless new hybrids along the way.
With MOOD, you’re not just recalling history—you’re writing your own.
What Makes MOOD Different From Other Pedals
There are some great multi-mode pedals out there — like the Walrus AGES, a multi-analog overdrive; the Source Audio KING MAKER, a high-end digital recreation of classic fuzzes; or the Strymon MOEBIUS, known for its wide range of modulation algorithms.
All these clever pedals offer multiple modes in a single unit — five different overdrives, three types of fuzz, or a selection of modulation styles to choose from, all with genuinely great tones.
But with Kernom, we wanted to take a different approach.
Instead of choosing from a fixed set of predefined sounds, you simply turn one knob, the MOOD knob, — and when it sounds right, you play. You don’t need anymore to decide in advance whether you’re after a flanger or a chorus. You just play, adjust, and let the right sound appear naturally.
The transition is smooth and continuous, not stepped — unlocking a full spectrum of analog tones that evolve with your playing and your mood.
And once the base sound is dialed in, you can dive deeper with additional controls to fine-tune your tone — add some midrange presence to a compressed overdrive, tweak the speed of a smooth phaser, or even blend in an octave-down to give a '60s-style fuzz that extra growl
If you’ve only ever played something like a RAT, imagine this: instead of being locked into its signature mid-heavy snarl, you could morph it into the smooth breakup of a Bluesbreaker, push it toward Big Muff-style sustain — or discover something entirely new in between.
That’s what MOOD makes possible.
Why Guitarists Call It a Secret Weapon
The MOOD knob transforms each Kernom pedal into more than an effect—it becomes a creative instrument of its own:
-
Infinite expression: One knob unlocks a world of tones
-
Versatility without compromise → one pedal, countless voices.
-
Real-time creativity → morph with expression pedal or MIDI.
-
Analog warmth + modern control → no sterile modeling, just pure tone.
Whether you’re on stage or in the studio, the MOOD knob turns your pedal into an instrument of its own.
